FAQs

This section contains answers to frequently asked questions about our wearables.

Index Trigger

1.

How do I know which size to choose?

The following table can give you a good estimate on the size somebody will need. Measurements are taken with bare hands, so if someone uses a glove you should consider adding a few mm or parts of an inch. This is a simple orientation and also the thickness of somebody’s hand is important. In the end - the opportunity to try on the wearable is best to understand the most comfortable form fit for the wearer.

2.

How long is the life span of an Index Trigger?

ProGlove wearables are rugged and specifically built for industrial environments. Nevertheless, the products should still be replaced regularly to ensure safe use, smooth operations and comfortable and ergonomic wear. The life span of the Index Trigger depends on use case conditions and treatment. Reported life spans (in 8h shifts) range from two dozen up to several hundred shifts. In tests with simulated industrial conditions, the product typically has the average life expectancy of 80 shifts (each 8 hours). Parameters that can influence the lifetime:

  • Intensive use of hands during work like handling of objects such as metals, sharp-edged cartons and boxes or power tools.

  • Presence of dirt, oil and other liquids or substances in direct contact with the wearables.

  • Usage with or without another standard (e.g. safety) glove underneath.

  • Treatment of the user and sharing wearables with other users vs. individual equipment.

  • Special environmental conditions such as high humidity, changing temperatures or similar.

3.

Is there a way to estimate the lifetime of the Index Trigger upfront?

ProGlove has many years of experience in the use of wearable barcode scanners across a wide range of industries. Over this time, we have built solid reference data from many industries and use-cases, as well as an estimation tool, which can provide rough estimate of the life time that can be made based on certain use case parameters. However, the most reliable measurements is always to use the Index Trigger in the planned use case for the duration and scope of a POC project. Please contact your ProGlove representative or the service team for further information.

4.

What can be done to extend the life time of the Index Trigger?

  • Provide each employee with a personal Index Trigger instead of sharing them between users.

  • Ensuring the correct size and the correct fit of the Index Trigger is very important. Large fits can provoke more abrasion and smaller fits can lead to additional pressure on the glove materials and wearer’s hand.

  • Combining the Index Trigger with another standard (safety) glove underneath can improve comfort and life span in some use-cases.

  • For some employees, switch their scanner to another hand. Often the “dominant hand” is also used for activities with higher forces.

5.

Is there a warranty or guarantee on the Index Trigger?

When your wearables do not withstand their estimated life span, we do provide you the opportunity to send in those defective wearables so that Quality Management can check them. Before you reach out to us please make sure that you are aware of the life span of the different wearables. You can find out about the life span by reading the answer to the question “How long is the life span of an Index Trigger?”, also on this page.

If you are convinced that the wearable has not reached the life span, please use our Support Form to reach out. It's important to describe the use case (assembly, commissioning, etc.), how many shifts the wearable has been used, what defect can be observed and how many scans you trigger per shift. Our support will create an RMA and inform you about our shipment instructions so that you can send in your Wearables.

6.

Which variants are available for the Index Trigger?

The Index Trigger is available in 6 variants: Small, Medium and Large, for left hand and right hand orientation. There are 2 different packaging sizes: 3pcs and 10pcs per package. Upon request, ProGlove can provide Index Triggers which can be used in ESD protected areas. 7.

Is it possible to clean or disinfect the Index Trigger?

ProGlove wearables are not machine-washable or submersible. This is because gloves and wraps contain sensitive electronics in and around the scan trigger. The wearables are meant to be replaced periodically due to normal wear and tear. With care, it is possible to clean your wearables with minimal risk to the functionality. We recommend using a spray cleaner with 70% isopropyl alcohol or cleaning products designed for use on fabrics. The scanner clip should be cleaned with only 70% isopropyl alcohol as other chemicals may impact the structure of the clip over time resulting in the scanner coming loose from the clip when in use. Make sure your wearables are completely dry before using them again.

Product functionality or appearance may be impacted due to the strength of the chemicals, application methods, contact time, or use of the glove after application. We do not recommend using harsh chemical cleaners and avoid submerging the glove or wrap in liquid or saturating or applying pressure to the area around the trigger. Because not everyone will follow exactly the same steps with the same cloths and cleaning agents that we tested in our lab, ProGlove disclaims all warranties and does not assume any liability with respect to the recommendations expressed here to keep your MARK barcode scanning system clean.

Full blog post about sanitization of wearable barcode scanners can be found here: Barcode scanning basics: Keep your MARK System clean.

8.

Is it possible to use the Index Trigger in low temperature environments?

It is possible to use the Index Trigger in environments as low as -5°C (23°F). As the product contains glue there will be issues with the holding force of the closing mechanism underneath -5°C. ProGlove recommends using the Reel in extreme low temperature areas. Also the Hand Strap can be used down to -20°C (-4°F).

9.

Is the Index Trigger PWIS*-free (e.g. silicone, wax or stripping agents)?

Yes, the ProGlove Index Trigger are free from substances that might impair surface wetting in the coating process. The PWIS-free requirement is applied mainly in the automotive industry and in use-cases with surface finishing or painting processes. Products which exude or have attached to them substances like silicone, wax or stripping agents may not be used in production stages prior to the painting process, as contact with these substances gives rise to paintwork flaws.

*PWIS = Paint-Wetting Impairment Substances; also known under LABS = Lackbenetzungsstörende Substanzen

  • Attached to a pocket of a vest or shirt.

2.

How long is the thread of the Reel and is it possible to have a longer cord?

The thread of the ProGlove Reel is 120 cm / 47 in long. There are older revisions in the field with a thread length of 70 cm / 27 in.

3.

Is it possible to clean or disinfect the Reel?

It is acceptable to use disinfecting wipes with 70% isopropyl alcohol or disinfecting wipes designed for office/home use. Do not use disinfecting wipes designed for medical us or those containing sodium hypochlorite (bleach) or abrasives.

Avoid spraying cleaners directly on the Reel pins. Apply gentle pressure with a wipe or cleaning cloth to minimize the risk of changes to the cosmetic appearance or functionality. Follow the cleaning procedure from the wipe manufacturer and wipe away any residual disinfectant after the prescribed contact time. Always allow the Reel to dry completely before use. Over time, the use of disinfecting wipes may impact the cosmetic appearance of your Reels.
